چکیده

Bioassays are a useful tool for detecting possible impacts of pollutants on biota. Hyalella curvispina is an epibenthic amphipod native to South America used evaluate the toxicity environmental samples. However, information gaps persist regarding their sensitivity certain and tolerance salinity, so this research provides new data characterize response. In work, copper phenanthrene was analyzed, as well its salinity. The 96h LC50 obtained 184 µg Cu / l, while 10-day 68 l. Regarding results showed = 13, 10 days 11 significant inhibition in growth 18% compared control organisms exposed 17.2 For phenanthrene, no lethal response any applied treatments, which suggests that H. would have greater than other amphipods, however, these preliminary should be verified covering higher levels exposure.

The freshwater amphipods Hyalella Smith, 1874 in Chile (Crustacea: Amphipoda)

The Chilean fauna of amphipods has been poorly studied. Freshwater amphipods in Chile have a single genus in epigean environments. Seven species of the genus Hyalella are reported for Chile: H. simplex; H. fossamancinii, H. kochi; H. chiloensis; H. costera; H. araucana, and H. franciscae. A short diagnosis, a key and figures are given for each species.

Hyalella pauperocavae n. sp. from Huancayo, Perú, is described. Five other epigean freshwater amphipods have been described from Peru (excluding Lake Titicaca), but the lack of type material and poor descriptions do not allow the assignment of the species described here to any of the names known for the area.
